Q1: I have recorded some video clips with my new Sony PMW-500 camcorder, the footages are fairly good, however, the problem is, what plug-in do I need to install so I can import the MXF files from this PMW-500 to Final Cut Pro 7? Any idea?

Q2: Is there any workable solution to transfer the Sony PMW-500 MXF files t FCP X easily? I tried several plug-ins and Log and Transfer, only to get nowhere.

As Sony’s first XDCAM HD422 camcorder, the PMW-500 comes with solid state recording and features three 2/3”-type 2.2-megapixel full-HD progressive CCDs. In addition, it records high-definition video with 1920×1080 and 1280×720 resolutions up to 50Mbps using MPEG-2 4:2:2P HL compression technology. After shooting some videos with this Sony PMW 500, you may want to edit them in Final Cut Pro. However, you may also face the problem that FCP 6/7 or FCP X does not recognize the .mxf files. Below is the solution.

We know, Sony PMW-500 MXF is not compatible with Final Cut Pro, if we need to edit such files in FCP, we have to convert MXF files to FCP compatible formats in advance. To do this job, iOrgsoft MXF Video Converter for Mac is a good choice. It is capable of converting Sony XDCAM, Canon XF, Panasonic P2 MXF files to FCP X,7,6 to edit with ease.
